The Nelson-Tasman area offers plenty to see and
experience. It is well known for its beautiful nature, beaches and a sunny
climate the whole year round.
An historic and idyllic location is
Upper Moutere
village (formerly Sarau) with the
first Lutheran church in NZ. German settlers founded it in the 1850's. Worth a
visit are the historic cemetery and the general local store with its delicious
real fruit ice cream. In the Old Post Office they produce and sell
Moutere Gold Pre-serves and over
the road is a local potter and the Moutere Inn, the oldest licensed pub in NZ.
Neudorf, formerly a small settlement that had
its own Wyperserfontein Hotel, kept the German name. Along Neudorf road on
the way to the Gingerbread House you will find the internationally respected
Neudorf Vineyard and the new
Neudorf Dairy where sheep's cheeses are handcrafted. The Moutere Hills
is home to many award winning wineries.
